Today's APOD is a Left Panoramic Camera (PanCam) Non-linearized Downsampled EDR frame acquired on Sol 489 by the NASA - Mars Exploration Rover (MER) Spirit - now decommissioned - at approximately 18:13:11 Mars Local Solar Time, in the Martian Region of Gusev Crater. The camera commanded to use Filter 2 (753 nm).

This frame has been additionally processed and colorized in Absolute Natural Colors (such as the colors that a normal human eye would actually perceive if someone were on the Surface of Mars, near the NASA - Mars Exploration Rover Spirit, and then looked towards the Horizon and Sky of Gusev Crater), by using an original technique created - and, in time, dramatically improved - by the Lunar Explorer Italia Team.
