As you know, NASA selected Gale Crater as the Landing Site for the Mars Science Laboratory Rover "Curiosity" and, as we have learned, the Spacecraft has just landed in a Northern portion of the Crater. Hopefully, in the next few days, we should be able to show you (both here and on the Lunar Explorer Italia Main Site) the first RAW b/w and Color images arriving from this new Martian Location.

Gale Crater is roughly 96 miles (such as about 154 Km) in diameter and holds a Layered Mountain that rises about 3 miles (approx. 5 Km) above its Floor. The Mars Science Laboratory Rover "Curiosity", during a Prime Mission which has been planned to last one Martian Year - nearly two Earth Years -, shall visit the Landing Region, looking for clues regarding the Environmental Conditions of the area, and trying to determine if there were favorable conditiions for supporting Microbial Life or more.

This frame has been colorized in Absolute Natural Colors (such as the colors that a human eye would actually perceive if someone were onboard the NASA - Mars Odyssey Orbiter and then looked down, towards the Surface of Mars), by using an original technique created - and, in time, dramatically improved - by the Lunar Explorer Italia Team.
